In this JIRA tutorial Create an issue, we will see how to create an issue. If you want to learn the basics of JIRA like creating an account and navigation click here.
You should be aware of three screens before we dive in. These are
- Create screen
- Edit screen
- View screen
Step 1 Image 1: Click Create button
The create button is on top of the screen. The color of the screen and button might vary according to the configuration. However, the placement of the button remains the same.
Step 2 Image 1: Create Issue screen
Once you click the create issue button the screen below pops up. This is the create issue screen and it has various options to input and select values. Create screens are not limited to fields you will see in this course. Jira system administrators can create custom fields and place them on issue specific create screens, which means based on the project and the issue type you select, a different create screen with different values can be displayed. However, the overall functionality of create issue screen remains the same. Also note that whenever you have an asterix next to the field. It means these fields are mandatory.

The first drop down is Project and the administrator assigns a default value to you. However, if you are working on multiple projects you will have multiple options. Select the project that you want to create an issue.

- The next drop down you will notice is issue types.
- You can select different types of tickets or issues like bugs, epics and suggestions for a project.

- Enter the summary of the type of issue you are creating
- The reporter is the person who is reporting the issue
- The components and description give a detailed description of the issue
- An administrator can configure and customize issue types according to the project’s needs. However, these mostly remain standard.
- Once you fill all the mandatory values and press the create button at the bottom of the screen.

Once you click create and if you have not clicked the check another create check box you are redirected back to the main screen and the created issue is displayed temporarily on top right of the screen

However, the notification that pops up once you create an issue is temporary and disappears after few minutes.
If you want to see the issue, you just created and you missed the popup. You can select the issue’s drop down at the top left of the screen. Underneath the first searching section, you will now notice a Recent Issues section. Your most recent ticket is present at the top of this list.

Once you create an issue and if you want to further create issues quickly one after another. Click the create another check box. This helps you create another issue.
